British Blokart Champs Ainsdale 28th/29th June

I thought it was about time I posted some news on here, so here's a little about the Blokart Champs weekend at Ainsdale. The wind blew, sometimes not quite strongly enough, but we managed a total of 12 races, 10 of 15 minutes and the last 2 just 10 minutes. The start box was about half-way along the upwind leg of the course and there was a lot to be gained by crossing the line at the best time. Even so the finishing order in each race was nearly the same each time!

Jacob picked up a prize for most improved sailor, since he started off barely managing to get around the course but by the end of the weekend was racing for all he was worth.

Interval training at Crook o' Lune

After several weeks of varied interval training sessions I finally did one with a heart rate monitor. Using various web based calculators for maximum heart rate I get figures of between 169 and 174, depending which piece of research the calculation is based on. The graphic above has max rate set at 168, which is what the Garmin 305 defaulted to after I entered my age. Clearly I went well over that limit! My max must really be in the mid to high 170s. However, that's not something I should be pushing too hard too often. I will keep a close eye on future traces, which ought at least to record a gradual improvement of recovery rate as training progresses.

Blokarting at Ainsdale

Sunday 16th March Jacob and Chris had a good time blokarting at Ainsdale beach. Jacob had first to apply for his permit, which was done at the Discovery Centre when we arrived. Wind was not too strong, but enough to regularly hit 20 mph. We had some good racing with Jacob using a 2m sail and Chris with a 4m. Chris was also trying out his new Garmin 305 which gave a top speed of 23.6 mph.
